Project “New Life of Old Narva”
Project duration: 01/04/2022 – 31/07/2023
The goal of the project “New Life of Old Narva” is to raise awareness of Narva as an important tourism destination with reach cultural heritage, increase the number of foreign tourists and restore Narva tourists’ number to pre-COVID-19 level in at least five years after the project end, which will have a positive impact on the local economy.
In the framework of the project a new tourist product is being created in the building of the Narva Town Hall, called virtual Old Narva. Virtual Old Narva is a symbiosis of augmented and virtual reality. In the augmented reality hall, guests are offered the opportunity to explore pre-war Narva, see the city as it was before the year 1944. The main physical objects of the exhibition will be 3D models of the old city, which are made on the basis of the paper model of F. Shantsyn and the model of the Narva Museum. Using tablets, guests will receive information about the pre-war life of the city in general, as well as about individual buildings and objects of Narva, for example, the pharmacy building and the stock exchange building on the Town Hall Square and other buildings where famous citizens used to live. Visitors with virtual reality glasses will take a virtual walk through the streets of the old city. The walk starts from the town hall square and goes along Rüütli and Suur streets.
As a result of the project, a virtual Old Narva is created for both, the visitors of Narva and residents in the Town Hall building, being a new, modern tourist product. The product is unique as it visualizes the city that once existed but can’t been seen anywhere else except virtual reality.
